The development-culture interface: Sri Lanka perpectives
    (2022) Senaratne, S.P.F
Sri Lanka in common with many other countries has had to admit that its development policies have not met with the success that was expected schemes and programmes have covered many fields and have taken many forms success, it is true has not been entirely absent; welfare policies in particular are often held up as examples which other countries in similar circumstances may well follow. Most groups however have seen little improvement in their standard of living and their experience may best be described as running hard to stay in one place. The promise of the early years of independence has, unfortunately, not been realized. Colonial subjugation it would now appear was not the critical factor in Sri Lanka's lack of prosperity.
