Abstract:
Sri Lanka as a state party of the International Convention on the Protection of the rights of all migrant workers and members of their families, is required to submit an initial report on the legislative, judicial, administrative and other measures taken to implement the provisions of this Convention. This report is submitted in fulfilment of this requirement. A significant step taken in this regard was the setting up of a Ministry for Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare tacitly recognizing the importance of labour and labour related activities in the country.
