dc.description.abstract |
The number of foreign workers in Japan was comparatively low when compared to that in Gulf countries in the past. However, by 2010, the registered number of foreign workers increased drastically, the larger percentage of them being temporary migrant workers. Sri Lanka migrants also were part of this increase, and by 2006 the number of labour migrants was 12,000, showing an increase from 1,200 in 1990. This paper uses macro level data and a sample survey to rationalize this trend. |
