From its very inception in 1980 the concept of networking was central to the mission of APDC.It was envisaged from the beginning that the center should constitute the catalytic hub of a multiplicity of emerging and disappearing informal networks. The center over the last few years has attempted to ope rationalize the concept in terms of new collaborative relationship which were established with a very large number of national research and training institutions in the region as well as outside. The purpose of this paper is to present the highlights of that experience in the context of some of the major research programmes. However it should be noted that the distinction being drawn between research and training activities of the center is somewhat a forced one, since of necessity networking in research would invole diverse forms of training that is directly derived from the research work.en_US
