dc.description.abstractThis paper seeks to provide an overview of the current status of general education in Sri Lanka and to raise some of the major issues that need to be addressed in oder to enhance is relevance to the demands of the country's economy and the society as well as the aspirations of its recipients. The paper will not dwell on the historical evolution of general education in Sri Lanka, as the literature on the subject has dealt with this aspect extensively. Where appropriate, aspect extensively, where appropriate, aspects of the historical evolution could, it is felt, be raised during the discussion.en_US
