Abstract:
Recognizing that migration is a phenomenon which is an integral part of some sectors of Sri Lankan Society, and also recognizing the fundamental right of access to health by all sectors of society, the Ministry of Health has developed the Sri Lanka National Migration Health Policy. This policy targets internal, in bound and outbound migrants and their families. Identifying the multifaceted nature of migration health, the Ministry of Health adopted a multi-stakeholder and evidence based approach involving thirteen key government ministries with technical assistance from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in developing the National Migration Health Policy. This is a tacit acceptance of migrant health being within its national health and health care systems comprising public and private health care systems.
