Item Agreed minutes of the Sri Lanka German bilateral negotiations on development co-operation(2003-03)Negotiations on financial and technical co-operation were held in Colombo on 20 March 2003 between a delegation of the government of Sri Lanka headed y Mr. Charitha Ratwatte, secretary, Ministry of finance and Ministry Of Policy development Implementation and a delegation of the government of the federal republic of Germany headed by Mr. Jochen Kenneweg, Head of South Asia Division federal Ministry Of Economic Co-operation and development. List of the members of the delegations are attached as annex land annex. The following is a summary of the talks.Item Infrastructure development and private investment(2022) Ramanujam, Dr. PA well developed and sustainable economic infrastructure by way of an adequate supply of electric power an efficient system of transportation, water supply modern telecommunications and a waste disposal system is essential not only for promoting higher levels of investment and productivity but also for the improvement of the quality of life of the people. An electric power supply which cannot meet the demand or is unreliable disrupts productions.Item The development-culture interface: Sri Lanka perpectives(2022) Senaratne, S.P.FSri Lanka in common with many other countries has had to admit that its development policies have not met with the success that was expected schemes and programmes have covered many fields and have taken many forms success, it is true has not been entirely absent; welfare policies in particular are often held up as examples which other countries in similar circumstances may well follow. Most groups however have seen little improvement in their standard of living and their experience may best be described as running hard to stay in one place. The promise of the early years of independence has, unfortunately, not been realized. Colonial subjugation it would now appear was not the critical factor in Sri Lanka's lack of prosperity.Item The democracy initiative(1990-12)Democracy is complementary to and supportive of the transition to market-oriented economics and sustained broadly based economic development consistent with the new mission statement the AID democracy initiative propose focusing A.I.D experience skills and resource explicitly to help promote and consolidate democracy as the legitimate organizing principle for political systems throughout the world.Item The democracy initiative progress update(1991-04)since November 1990, representatives of PPC, regional bureaus and more recently S&T and FVA have met every Tuesday to discuss the democracy initiative and its implementation, and is called by PPC, a broad number of topics associated with the democracy initiative have been discussed. One of the current priorities is a draft democracy policy paper which will include guidelines on a roll range of democracy initiative issues. There are sound reasons for anticipating the effects of current on future immigration intakes decisions. Australia's long-term national objectives. These two policy requirements imply a case for forward planning but not the need for a stable immigration intake. Appropriately designed numerically unstable intakes are preferable to stable immgration intakes because instabillity, while introducing adjustment costs avoids incurring more significant losses due to loss of selectivity in determining the entry mix.Item Optimal depletion when development makes an unused resource stock more valuble(1995-05) Clarke, HarrySome countries rapidly exploit their natural resource bases to increase incomes and achieve development goals. When increased incomes eventuate, stocks of certain resource currently being depleted attain enhanced future values when demands for the utilization of services based on theses stocks increase with development. This paper analyses the trade off between development and conservation goals in a model determining optimal savings and depletion time paths.Item Schools of economic and commerce: Incentive to work vs disincentive to invest: the case of chaina's rural reform 1979-1984(1995-02) Choe, ChongwooAn institutional change from the communal system to the household responsibility system in rural chaina has brought a bout dramatic increase in productivity during the period of 1978-1985,but has also opend up a set of new problems decreased investment among others. I argue in this paper that the new responsibility system is effective to peasants by rendering residual claims but not so in internalizing positive externalities of investment resulting in the underinvestment . Agricultural subsidy investment tax credit the roles of such institutions as township and village enterprises in undertaking the investment in agricultural infrastructure and most fundamentally well-established property rights are discussed as possible remedies.Item Networking experience in development research:Asian experience(1989) T.
